Fresh Yard Initiative is a non-profit organization powered by S4P Group and Home Harvest. By combining expertise in social and behaviour change, youth engagement, urban agriculture, nutrition, and climate action, we empower households to grow healthy food in the available spaces, empower children with practical skills and build resilient urban communities.

As Uganda's cities continue to grow, many families face increasing challenges in accessing affordable, nutritious food while living in increasingly smaller spaces. Fresh Yard exists to bridge this gap by enabling urban households to grow their own fresh vegetables using innovative space-saving designs.

Our work cultivates healthier families, equips children with practical life skills, creates greener cities, strengthens communities, and builds resilient households that can grow, learn, and thrive together.

Fresh Yard recognizes that healthy communities depend on a healthy environment. We integrate climate-smart agriculture into all our programmes by promoting water-efficient gardening systems, sustainable food production, organic waste recycling, compost processing, and tree planting that builds green resilient communities.

Youth Employment & Livelihoods

Fresh Yard is deeply committed to creating structured socioeconomic opportunities for young people. Our operational programs provide meaningful local employment and dedicated professional paths for agronomists, trainers, technicians, and mobilizers.

Beyond baseline employment, we equip young professionals with high-demand practical skills across smart agriculture, client management, nutrition metrics, behavior tracking, and local climate adaptation loops.

Flagship Focus: My Green Action Campaign

Implemented in strategic partnership with UNICEF Uganda, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Roofings Limited, and S4P Group; Solutions for People.

The targeted green campaign equips young people with practical climate knowledge through dynamic school activities, peer-to-peer learning formats, digital engagement networks, urban tree planting, organic waste management, and proactive environmental stewardship across secondary schools in Kampala and Wakiso.

Inspire a lifelong relationship with nutrition and nature. Sponsoring school gardens engages students directly in sustainable agriculture, climate action, and nutrition education. We establish container-based vertical gardens and run hands-on extracurricular green clubs that teach children responsibility, germinate practical life skills, and show them exactly where their food comes from.

Empower a household to feed itself. Your sponsorship directly provides vulnerable urban families with all the physical inputs required to establish their first vertical farm. Each starter kit contains space-saving containers, customized vertical bags, organic soils, nutrient-dense seedlings, seeds, and maintenance tools, immediately improving dietary variety.

Transform urban spaces and build environmental resilience. We organize co-planting sessions where your team and local community members work side-by-side to construct high-yield vertical farms, set up backyard gardens, and plant climate-resilient trees. This directly offsets urban carbon footprints while greening local neighborhoods.

Celebrate resilience and drive behavior change. Showcase days are community-wide events that recognize, reward, and document outstanding backyard gardens and innovative urban farms. Your sponsorship supports educational awards and seed grants for exceptional gardeners, creating healthy neighborhood competition and local food pride.

Bring teams and families together for hands-on ecological learning. We host interactive, family-friendly events focused on urban agriculture, waste management, compost processing, and organic pest control. These sessions connect urban professionals and school groups with the land, fostering a shared Ugandan food culture.

Join us in constructing structural solutions to urban food insecurity. Funding our core programmatic initiatives supports nutrition counseling, agronomist support hotlines, behavioral change tracking, and vertical farming setups for low-income communities, directly contributing to Kampala's sustainable food targets.
